LIAM GLAZEBROOK

Owner, Head Coach

A child of the 70s, I grew up watching Michael Jordan make history. Jordan was my religion and I would train for an extra 4 hours every day - religiously (this did not include the hours watching and re-watching Jordan's games recorded on VHS). At the peak of my professional career, my world changed and I became a father at 21. I retired from basketball and pursued a career in chefing - it was the 90s - basketball was not a career option (in Australia) yet.

For the last 20 years the court was replaced by the kitchen and service time replaced the high pressure intensity of game time. In 2020, my younger children discovered basketball and after a year of watching every training session and game, I stepped back on the court as a Coach. Today, the facilities are better, the sports science is impressive, the competition is greater yet the mental game is still fundamentally the same.

I want the world to know that basketball is not just a game, it is 48 minutes of showcasing mental and physical game. Basketball is an attitude that spills into everyday life. It is an opportunity to discover and be part of something greater, a team. At The Hoop LAB Gold Coast, The 'Starting 5' are the focus of every training session. How much focus each area receives depends on the player through customised training, we call this The 'Assist'. Through mental and performance training, your baller attitude will flow into your everyday life.

For me, basketball still provides the platform for pushing boundaries and demonstrating personal persistence and achievements. I want you to fall in love with the game of basketball, be humble and be great.

- Coach Liam

Julieta Paget

Owner, Assistant Coach

After 16 years of leadership roles in Brisbane, opportunity for a sea change presented itself and Julieta and her family moved to the Gold Coast at the end of 2019. Julieta spent her first 18 months on the Gold Coast connecting with her community, starting a company and having a baby. It was at her children's club training that The Hoop Lab Gold Coast was conceived with partner Liam Glazebrook. One hour of training and one hour of game time per week was not enough.

"Liam gave me the opportunity to pursue my career  goals, now it's his turn to chase his dreams. And (laughs), I get to do all the media and admin side of things so really I'm the 'boss' and he is the 'brand', he is definitely not allowed to touch the work computer (more laughing)."

"I don't know much about basketball, but I do know how to build teams and getting the best out of those individuals. I'm definitely the crazy mum screaming from the side-lines, but I scream at all the players equally (laughs). I'm really there for the kids, I just love seeing their faces when it's basketball time."

Today, Julieta tells everyone that being the 'Assistant Coach' of the The Hoop LAB Gold Coast is her favourite career role. Rather than stepping out in heels and into the office, Julieta gets to lace up in basketball kicks for work everyday. Julieta applies her experience and knowledge to The Hoop LAB Gold Coast whilst meeting and making connections with players of all ages and skill-levels.

"I get to see players realise their potential every day.

Best job ever!"

- Julieta

- Shaquille O'Neal -

"Nobody's going to tell me how to be different, so stop asking me. Stop asking me what two-plus-two is. Everybody knows two-plus-two is five."
